Yes, antidepressants can be used as a cure. I would know because I am on two different kinds. Depression isn't just something that someone can get over in a second, a minute, a month or so forth. It is a chemical imbalance and the antidepressants help the brain to produce and regulate the missing chemicals. It also has been proved through science that it is a chemical imbalance in the brain and therefore people cannot help but feel really sad and down. There are times that people need just a little help to fight something.

I know that there are different types of depression and different ways to handle it. Yes, some types of depression doesn't exactly need medicine to help out; its not that strong and the person could get better quickly. But there are types of depression that are deep and hard to get rid of. It's not the person's fault; most feelings of depression are of guilt or helplessness or worthlessness and so forth. Sometimes it is just hard to get out of that thinking and feeling mode.

I've been depressed for the past four years and the last year finally got help. I take two different antidepressants and I see a therapist once a week or so. The type of depression I have is deep and hard to get rid of...simply because four years ago I was pregnant and had an early pre-term delivery at 20 weeks and lost my daughter. That kind of depression is hard to see through because have all this guilt, thinking its my fault that I lost my daughter simply because it was my body and therefore it is my fault.

So yes, I needed the help. I tried so hard to do it on my own, but it is really hard. I have support from family and friends, but despite all their efforts in saying it's not my fault, it didn't work. I needed something to help with the chemical imbalance in my brain.

Although I agree that it can be a cure for depression, there should be a limit on how long you should be on it. It certainly is not a long term goal or suggestion to be on antidepressants for the rest of your life. You need to work on getting better, finding new hobbies and just finding ways to heal; the antidepressants are just a little push of help.
