If possible, consult people that have obtained certifications or grades in computer technology for advice on security flaws in your computer setup, make them to scan vulnerabilities in your system, like missing updates in software, hardware compatibility with operating system hardware maintenance, and other stuff. Take note that this can be made at least once a year to ensure that all works as it should.
If you depend on your computer to do home business, sign up for on site support and ensure that your provider has on-call facility if anything goes wrong. Go to a computer service provider and contract support with them for them to go to your home to give support when things get bad, if your computer is a brand computer (in most cases) contract support from the computer provider and keep support active over time, this will help you to have your computer in a good point.
Obtain reputable security software. Protection packages can be obtained from all PC software dealers that include the necessary functions (Anti-virus, spyware, firewall and content filtering). If needed use a specialist to ensure proper installation, if you are in trouble with money, you can use free security software like SPYBOT search and destroy, AVG anti-virus, GFI languard, etc.
