Shock generation: The history of 'Shock Rock'

I think this is hysterical now, but I was pissed when it happened. My first Ramones concert was in 1988 and it was one to remember. They were playing at the CBGB's of Trenton-a place called City Gardens. It was a stomping ground of mine in the 80's when time meant nothing and insanity was the main course. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to see them. I walked in with a friend and I went directly on the floor in front of the stage. They weren't on yet. My friend went to the bar to get us both a beer and I told her to meet me on the floor. If you've ever been to a Ramones concert, you would know they don't talk much to the audience. Actually, I don't think they talked at all at this concert. Anyway-they were introduced and walked on stage, picked up their instruments and started immediately to play I wanna be sedated. I of course had no way of knowing this was my first slam dance. Yes-every single person around me started to throw their bodies into one another as hard as they possibly can-with me in the middle. I was picked up by someone and carried across the floor and back, then thrown into the middle again. I guess they saw me as a little rag doll at the time. I am only 5'2" so everyone and their mother is taller than me. This happened during the ENTIRE song which I think lasted 3 hours (actually it was like 2 minutes, but it seemed forever.) Then this huge guy grabbed onto my right breast and swung me around-BY MY BREAST! He would not let go for anything. I do believe I kicked him in the balls and stomach quite a few times. I threw a lot of punches and kicks when this was happening. Anyway-suddenly the song ends and this guy still has my breast in his hand like a softball. I punched him in the face and pretty much told him to get the get off me or I will hurt him-and I meant it. I ran off that floor so fast-I mean if I had to go through that again during another song, I think I probably would have ended up in the hospital (mental). As soon as I ran off the floor, my friend was right at the edge with a beer in each hand, her mouth was open so wide I think her chin was on the floor. My hair was real long at that point and it looked like it went through a blender. I had a mini skirt on and it was hiked up and my ass was sticking out (thank God I WASN'T pulling a Britney at the time) and my right sleeve was completely pulled off of my arm and boobs were practically coming out of the bra. I had cuts all over my legs, arms and face. The next day, I noticed I had 5 finger shaped black and blue marks on my right breast. Needless to say I watched the rest of the concert from the back of the bar. At least the owner gave me free drinks the rest of the night. My mother saw me the next day and freaked out. I told her not to worry-I was just at a concert and I was fine-which I was. Ahhhh-I sure do miss those days. No regrets.
