To Kill a Friend
Sweet round eyes
And hair like gold
A gentle disposition
And a willing nature
Stronger than anyone I have ever known
What we have been through together
These last three years
Mountains of bandages
Five gallons of salve
Countless bottles of lotions, potions and sprays
Splints, wraps, maggots and duct tape
Yet through all these things
The light in your eyes never dimmed
Until this summer
After your first spring back in the pasture
I called the vet today
And after I get paid on Friday
He will meet us at the barn
The dream I had of your prosthetic
Will never come true
As any fool knows
Horses are not meant to have three feet

I opened it up and what a surprise.
Your not even hear to see my eyes.
You had gone away and left me alone.
