No backlash at all. Never, never! As long as the news media, TV and the tab mags feed on celeb gossip, the common people will continue to be fascinated and keep the beautiful people in the spotlight. This has been true since the days of royalty and religious leaders, when crowds jammed the streets just to get a look at their idols, and reach out lovingly to touch the hems of their robes.
Since movies emerged in the US a hundred years ago, movie stars have been the new royals, popes and emperors of America. They were joined later by pop singers, musicians, dancers and the latest idols ... the untalented party animals. Our royalty is an important part of our lives. There is no danger that this idolatry will diminish in the foreseeable future. And maybe, as the internet takes over more and more of our culture, the ranks of worshippers will only grow and grow.
Some people may not admit it out loud, but we're all fascinated by their looks, their styles and their romances. And, too often, we vicariously wallow with them in their misadventures, their drugs, and their predictable early deaths.
Whether we love them or love to hate them, there is no backlash in the works for the beautiful people.
