Reasons to work for yourself

There has never been a better time to work for yourself than now. Between the opportunities available online and the explosion of ideas in the offline world, starting your own business and being your own boss is very much possible in this day and age.

Whether you're still on the fence about working for yourself or just need a reminder, here are some of the various reasons to work for yourself.

>> Be your own boss <<

Let's face it, no one likes to be shouted at, forced to work long hours or answer to others - especially when they're your boss!

When you own your own business and work for yourself, you get to decide the shots. No longer will you need to report to others and await approval for your projects; you get complete control over your business and your life.

>> The ability to evolve <<

One trouble when working for others are their lack of evolution in business. The same tried and boring business practices are done over and over throughout the day. Whenever you have an idea that could revolutionize the business they are shot down by your superiors.

Instead of letting all these great ideas go to waste, if and when you work for yourself you'll be able to jump on any new idea you see fit to expand your business. The community will no longer have the final say on whether or not your ideas pass - you do it.

>> Set your own rates <<

A major appeal when working for yourself is the ability to choose your pay. Of course, your pay is directly determined by the amount of work you put into the business but once you do begin working for yourself, you won't have to worry about salary caps, minimum wage and that lost raise/promotion.

>> Work on your own time <<

The single greatest reason to begin working for yourself is the ability to set your own hours and operation. If the nine to five lifestyle isn't for you, unfortunately you'd still have to do it when working for others.

After you become your own boss, you can choose whichever time you'd like to work and even choose when you go on vacation. New choices of freedom will open to you as you shift away from working for others.

>> Spend time with friends and family <<

Working on your own time will allow you to finally spend time with your friends and family. All of those long hours, overtime and weekends lost will be the thing of the past.

From the point you become your own boss and work for yourself, you can decide what you'll spend your time on - this means more time for your family and friends. A happy relationship will, in turn, create a happier you.

>> Do your own thing <<

Most people out of college never get into the career they had planned on. Often times, people will fall into a comfortable job and ride it out until retirement or unemployment. The problem with working for others is that you never really get to do what you want to do.

When working for yourself, the choice is yours into what business you'll run. Your business could be your hobby, favorite past time or something that's always interested you - work will never feel boring when you actually love what you do!

>> Final thoughts <<

Through all of these reasons, the common denominator when working for yourself is the freedom. Freedom of time, stress and long hours will be only a memory as your business starts, evolves and becomes a success. These reasons alone should give you a jump start toward becoming your own boss.
