There have been many advances in the world of make up with new technologies and products being tested everyday. And due to the massive range of different products that are available, knowing which foundation would be best for your skin type can seem like a very difficult task.
Before you can choose the right foundation for your skin type, you will need to establish what your skin type is. Consult a dermatologist or a beauty therapist to get the most accurate picture of your skin.
Tinted moisturiser: This is a cross between moisturiser and foundation. It glides on easily and is less noticeable, but it will not give great coverage. It is really best left to those with “normal” skin.
Liquid foundation: Available in a variety of formulas and shades, this foundation glides on easily, gives excellent coverage when blended properly. It suits most skin types and can be applied with a sponge or clean fingers. Blending can take a little longer, but is easy to do because of its consistency. Since they some in many formulas, you are more than likely to find one for your skin type.
Stick foundation: These give excellent coverage, but they have a very heavy texture and so must be blended properly. Their thick coverage makes them ideal for those with blemishes or scars. Dot the foundation onto the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead and blend with a damp sponge.
Mousse foundation: A fairly recent addition to the world of make up, these are available in a matte finish or a light reflecting formula. They are light, soft and easy to blend. They give good coverage and they are long lasting. You only need to use a small amount and lend with a damp sponge or your fingers. Because of their excellent coverage, they are good for oily skin, blemished skin, and normal skin.
Compact foundation: This is a powder and foundation in one. It is applied with a sponge and blended. Its stiff consistency makes it a little harder to blend, but it gives excellent coverage and a matte finish making it ideal of combination, oily and normal skin.
Mineral foundation: Another fairly recent product, this is foundation that is brushed on like loose powder. It contains minerals that are beneficial to the skin and can really improve the skins appearance. This makes it excellent for any kind of skin. It is so easy to blend, simply dust a fairly large brush onto the powder, shake off the excess and brush in circular motions over the skin.
