There are many ways one can carve a pumpkin into a character. First you should decide what type of character you would like to have on your pumpkin. If you are of the artistic type you may even what to sketch it out on paper first. The concept of sketching it out on paper first would enable you to decide about how large of a pumpkin you might need. Then of course comes the fun part. You could simply purchase your pumpkin in the grocery store or better yet go to the orchard near your home and purchase one from them. They often will have fall festivities going on. Near my home we have an orchard and they do hay rides for the children of all ages. Pumpkins galore, houses made of pumpkins and of course their famous pumpkin donuts. Fall mums can be found there as well as small hay bales.
If you not the creative type you can by one of those kits at the store. They generally come with several designs to choose from. They also include the carving tools to carve the pumpkin. If that doesn't work you can just drawn a basic pumpkin face and cut it out with a kitchen knife. Either way it can be fun for you and your family. You can also trace the character onto the pumpkin and proceed to cut it out. Carving a pumpkin with a child or even for a contest say at work can be lots of fun. It is quality time spent with family and can encompass and entire day if you spend time at an orchard near your home who host the community with such fun adventure and activities.
With fall just around the corner I look forward to dressing warmly heading out to Milbourne Orchard for a day of fun. Hot apple cidar, pumpkin donuts the bumpy hay ride through the Orchard. Learning of the history of the Orchard while on that hay ride with my granddaughter as I did with my own children year after year. I wont be leaving there without my beautiful mums and of course several pumpkins for me and her. I can already picture in my mind her running in and out of the pumpkin house not sure which pumpkin to pick. I can only believe that this year she will want to carve her own. Of course with guidance.
