It is best to purchase a life insurance policy  while you are still young and healthy.  You will be able to obtain the best rate and one that may not increase with age.  If you wait until you are older the price will be extremely higher if the company will even be willing to under write a policy for you. The insurance company will send an insurance under-writer out to your home or place of business. They will ask you medical questions. Many of the questions are about past medical surgeries if you have had any. They also what to know what type of medications you are  currently taking. If you have high blood pressure and are on medication this could prevent you from being able to obtain an  affordable life insurance policy.

Diabetes is another medical condition that may prevent you from obtaining an affordable policy. Another one of their major questions is do you have HIV.  Smoking is also a question that is often asked, people who smoke will pay a higher premium than those who do not smoke. Obesity is another issue with insurance companies who are writing for a live insurance policy. Have you ever tried to commit suicide or thought about committing suicide. Do you abuse drugs or alcohol? Some companies will also send someone to your home to draw blood for blood test prior to writing a policy for you.

It is best to obtain a life insurance policy of your own while you are young. If you get one through your employer it may not be able to go with you if you chose to move to another company.  One through your company often are less costly. Chances are you may never use it or change jobs.

Having your own allows you to make career changes without the worry of losing your life insurance. You can always purchase a smaller one through your employer since they generally cost less. If you are young and debating getting life insurance do wait do it now while the cost will not be sky high. Chances are they may not even be willing to write a policy of any value to you if you develop medical condition as described above. Protect  your family and home.
