Poetry: Come to me

by Barry Williams

Created on: August 08, 2010

It's not funny when you lose your mind

People can be so unkind

They ask me what is my name

They think I'm just playing a silly game

When I say just a moment, now what can it be

Any moment now it will come to me

I rarely see my relatives anymore

And when they do visit they think I'm just a mindless bore

Lucky the nursing home people care and are really great

They show patience and deal with people who share my same fate

But when my relatives ask for money it's a fun time you see

I say I can't remember my bank details but wait,  it'll come to me

When I was young I had a mind like a steel trap

Curse this disease, I get so angry I feel I could snap

I can't remember if I'm seventy or ninety four

And when I think of the future I feel scared for what's in store

But I really shouldn't worry I have my faith for all of eternity

And someday the good Lord will come to me
