A few of us thought Nicole would get voted off, but we thought Amy sang good enough to stay another week. We didn't have time to bond with either of them, and no one had them in their Top 12. Was anyone surprised by how America voted on the girls?
No one came close to guessing the two boys who would be out after the first eliminations. Everyone I know who made a prediction guessed Sundance and Sanjaya. The question is: Could Sundance have been saved by a Web site that encourages people to "vote for the worst"? I checked out the Web site and found out that along with Sundance, people are being prompted to vote for Antonella Barba. Did you ever wonder how Chicken Little stayed in as long as he did? The Web site credits themselves for Kevin Covais staying in a lot longer than he should have. Anyway, I would personally like to thank the Web site for saving Sundance, but more on him later.
The male casualties last week were Paul Kim and Rudy Cardenas. Rudy was added to two cactus i.v. reader's lists after the Top 24 were announced, but no one had him as one their favorites after his first audition. I guess he just didn't have many fans because I didn't think he sang that terrible. Paul Kim was a favorite of some, but they agree that his singing was not on the same level as many of the other guys.
Back to Sundance what a difference a week makes. I was starting to wonder why I liked Sundance in the first place. Now I remember. He is an awesome blues singer. Everyone that thought he should have been out last week loved him this week. He's the number one pick of this column, so I know we all want to see him bring his best each week. He definitely did this week.
Others favorites for the week were Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson. Blake Lewis has some fans who "LOVE HIM"! They were really impressed with how much he sounded like Jamiroquai, unlike Simon who called him a "copy cat." And, unlike Simon, they loved that he added his beat boxing to the song. Chris Richardson was the favorite of my coworker group and was my favorite again this week. He dedicated Jason Mraz's "Geek In The Pink" to his grandmother. I think his "Big Mama" was probably very proud of him last night.
Unlike the boys, the feeling among my coworkers and family was that there were good performances among the girls, but none that we couldn't wait to talk about. Last week we had LaKisha, who was good this week but not as amazing as last week. We liked Melinda Doolittle (our number one female pick), who I thought
