Tips for adjusting to retirement

When people work for years on a job, they often long for retirement.  Some may plan their retirement, and they know what they plan to do.  While others just do not have any clue to what they will do after they retire.  Therefore, when it happens it could be devastating. The best thing to do is to keep busy.  There are many things you can do to keep busy.

You can put in a garden and grow your own veggies.  You could learn to can and freeze vegetables and fruits.

You could spend more time with your friends or family and enjoy your grandchildren, and take a few vacations.

You can work on the house and yard projects or repairs you have put off for so long.  You can clean your house and donate some stuff you do not feel you need any more to places like Good Will.

You can look for ways to reinvest your money.   You could look to yield higher interest rates on your money by checking into your finance institutions.

You could donate your time to help in charity organizations.  There are many organizations out there to choose from like homeless shelters and rescue missions, and food kitchens, and relief agencies.  You can donate your time in volunteering in your community or in your local church.

You could help the elderly with meals like meals on wheels, or you could help do some shopping and errands for them.

You could take on a few new hobbies, including health and fitness, and also hubbies that would be fun to share with your children or grandchildren.

You could start a new business, or help one of your children or friends in their business adventures.

You could join a church, attend church activities, and help out with church potlucks and church activities.

If you should feel alone at times and loneliness may set in from time to time, to stay sane, it is best to socialize in groups like life groups in your church or groups in your community.

In conclusion, there are many things you can do to keep busy with your time.  You do not need to sit around waiting to die in the old rocking chair.  Retirement can be what you make of it.  If you want to make it interesting, you will decide to work on it.  If you want it to be boring, you will decide to just do nothing.
