“Did you guess rightly who is me in the group photo?”
Mary’s message was hanging in the Yahoo chat. I was furiously thinking what to reply.
“Darling. It’s a promise. Guess who I am in the group photo and I will marry you” the next line was blinking at me.
It is do or die situation for me now. I have already done my thorough research. Through Facebook, I located Mary, confirmed her age (24) and confirmed her status; she is an unmarried Engineer at Cincinnati; her father was a filthy rich industrialist. It is to such a girl that I had planned to get hooked to. My dream is to leave India and settle at USA, marrying a hopelessly rich American girl.
Mary’s photo in her Facebook profile contained a picture of an 8 year old girl always. But no single girl in the group photo now e-mailed by her resembled that face. If at all there was a similarity, it was with a young man in the group photo. I took a deep breath and typed:
“None of the girls is you. If you happen to be a man, you’re the one third from the left” I replied.
Now I will know my fate. The fruit to my effort of 6-month long e-mailing and chatting with Mary to win her heart.. I had bared to her that I was a total failure in luring any women so far.
“You rascal! You are so right! But the man you identified was my twin brother who died in a road accident last year. Hey! It’s time we met. I am coming to India next month!” My heart leaped out of my chest! Hooray! I won!
Hotel Mourya International, New Delhi. I am waiting to meet Mary in the lounge with bated breath. I hear someone calling my name. As I rise up and look around, the man I saw in the photo is approaching me with a broad grin and I instantly notice what I saw in the photo too. A pink triangle in his T-shirt. Even before I could grasp the stark truth, he comes closer and hugs me... no, embraces me. Oh God! Save me! Is he going to kiss me?
