Break-ups are difficult for everyone. They can turn even the most stable person into an emotional wreck. You cry, you cyber stalk them and you cry some more. But finally you come through the other side and it feels good. Here’s how you know that you’re definitely over your ex:

1)    You log on to the Internet and check your own emails before you check theirs.

2)    You receive a text message from your ex but instead of texting back straight away you decide to spend your time doing something more interesting – watching the ceiling paint dry for example.

3)    You stop comparing every person you meet to your ex. ‘Oh look, they’re wearing black shoes, my ex had black shoes,’ is now a thing of the past.

4)    You can listen to your iPod without having to skip a song just because it was the first song your ex ever bought or it was the song that was on the radio when the two of you went shopping together three years ago.

5)    You stop asking mutual friends about your ex. You no longer care what he is up to and knowing that he isn’t over you yet no longer makes you feel better.

6)    You no longer cyber stalk them (and all their friends) every hour. Checking all their photos and analysing every status update is part of the old you. You are now ready to delete your ex from Facebook and change your relationship status to single.

7)    You start to realise that some of their ‘quirks’ were actually really annoying such as that stupid laugh or the fact that they still had their cuddly toys and what's more, spoke to them. Who does that?!

8)    You start fancying other people and look forward to going on dates. You can embrace your single status rather than mope about no longer being in a relationship. The world is your oyster.

9)    You can look back on your relationship with a smile rather than immediately bursting into tears. Ok, so it didn’t end well, but there were some happy memories and you’ve learnt some lessons from the bad moments.

10)  You bump into your ex and your heart doesn’t jump out of your chest. And, when your ex tells you they have a new partner you feel pleased that they’ve moved on. You wish them luck for the future and actually mean it.
