How owning a dog can heal you

There are many problems that we can suffer through our lives. For instance, the loss a loved one, losing a job or marital problems, it is a difficult life. Life can seem a whole lot better with a loyal and trusted friend. One who will always be on your side.

This friend may have some rather unpleasant habits; he will insist on urinating all over your next door neighbors garden. Lets face it; we all have our little whims. Dogs will allow you to do whatever you want, within reason of course, and they do not nag about eating that burger. They keep you exercised, and walking briskly is excellent aerobic exercise. Twice a day is about right for your four legged friend, for approximately 30 minutes. Though it must be acknowledged, your dog would happily walk for miles, apart from the odd toilet stop.



Going for a good, brisk walk is one of the best exercises for you. You can lose weight, build and tone muscle plus you will be able to exercise your lungs. If you are able to find some woodland to walk in with your dog, you will find that your lungs enjoy the added oxygen. Plus, you will find yourself leaving the woods in a much better mood and your canine best friend will have had loads more exercise, if you have been able to let him off his lead, chasing the wildlife that inhabits the wood. Do train your dog to come back to you, this is first and foremost before venturing into any area without a lead.

Even just relaxing on a sofa, and stroking your dog can lower your blood pressure and it has recently been proven that this effect can last for hours after you have left the house. Owning a dog has been shown to lower your cholesterol level as well, mostly due to all of the exercise that you must now take.

Single people and mothers of recently moved out teenagers can benefit hugely from dog ownership. This is because of the friendship a dog can give you, no more lonely nights, she will always be with you. Also, a dog needs you to be around, do not forget, you may not own a wolf, but they are still pack animals. Let us not forget, while you are out walking your dog, you will be able to meet many other dog owners. It is not unlike joining an extremely friendly club; dog owners are usually very decent people who are a mine of information when it comes to training your dog and feeding her. You may meet up with your soul mate while taking your dog for their walk or even meet your new boss, if you are looking for work.

There are so many legitimate reasons for owning a dog; also, you will find your self esteem rising as you manage to train your dog to heel, sit, stay and whatever other numerous tricks you may think of. It is quite apparent that the majority of the population is in need of a little canine friendship.
