SHOULD SODA VENDING MACHINES BE RESTRICTED IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS? I believe they should be. I see no need for them and only harm that can come from them. Soda, though it taste good, really is not good for you. A little once in awhile probably won’t hurt you all that much but soda has come to replace other beverages we should be drinking and does nothing to promote good health or healthy eating habits. I have nothing against the machines but I think they should be filled with water, fruit juices, not the sugary fruit punch artificially flavored kinds but real fruit juice. Even iced tea is better than soda. Having these soda vending machines accessible to our children promotes bad habits. Our goal is to teach them good habits, healthy living skills. We the teachers and support staff don’t really need the soda either and we should be making good choices to set a good example for the children we are responsible to. There really is no need for soda to be vended in our schools.
Soda, pop, carbonated, sugary drinks are not good for any of us. There are much better things we can offer to our children. There is nothing about a soda drink other than the pleasure derived from the flavor and the refreshing feel of that icy cold sparkle that promotes good health. These drinks do not truly hydrate your body or quench your thirst and they are loaded with things that harm you when we drink them in excess as most of us do.
