Republicans want to review the Fourteenth Amendment. This Fourteenth Amendment pertains to automatically giving citizenship to people who are born in the United States. Some leading Republicans are joining a push to reconsider the constitutional amendment that grants citizenship to people born in the United States. Some of the Republicans include Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Jon Kyle, Jeff Sessions, and Lindsey Graham. It is time to deport all illegal aliens. It is not time to change our constitution.

The Fourteenth Amendment was adopted in 1868 as one of the Reconstruction Amendments. It overruled the 1857 Dred Scott vs. Sanford decision that Blacks could not be citizens of the United States. The Fourteenth Amendment provides equal protection for all people and was used to dismantle racial segregation in the United States.

“Section 1- All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” (Wikipedia)

Republicans want to review this section of the Fourteenth Amendment. Some Republicans believe they know what the author’s meant when they said all people born in the United States are United States citizens. The Republicans want to prove this does not mean illegal aliens can have children in this country and those children are citizens of the Unites States. Some Republicans do not believe children of illegal aliens should be citizens of the United States even if they are born in our country. I have a problem with this belief.

I am a Republican. I believe illegal aliens should be sent back to their own countries. They came here illegally and should go home or go through the correct channels to become legal citizens of the United States. However, if their children are born in this country, by law, they are citizens of the United States. This is what the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution says and I do not believe in changing the Constitution to make it say what we want it to say.

Instead of changing the Constitution, send all illegal immigrants back home. Experts say there are nearly four million children born in the United States
