Poetry: Rivers

The River Bann

Still, I hear the water flowing
Never stopping always going
"Away from edge", My father yelled
"Its claims three souls" He told,
"Each Year", - But I was young then

Now as a Year by twenty
I heard of lives lost a plenty
Each one a silent poke to my fathers saying
True to word and not decaying
For I as just a man, not the River Bann.

Lough shores great its waves
On sandy banks are shallow graves
Buried deep with-in Its blue
Are memory's made of you.
Ah you, a follower in its name.

It's a fine and splendid sight
to be seen in day or in Night
That whispers songs played my ear
Sung so strong for all to hear
Take heed from the Bann;s warning

Stray too close and your a goner
for the living to Bury , bless and honor
Safe are those who respect her Name
You;d do well to do the same.
but in time;s eye , you will still die.

The Rivers lives and always will
with grief as common as this feathers quill
To pen these words by candle light
and here the stillness this winter's night
The song the river sings.
