This similar scenario occurs on a regular basis on television, in movies and even in real life, and we love it! Every time we see or hear about two people getting engaged, many of us get all teary eyed and choked up. Some of us even say awww that's so romantic.
You are familiar with the basic routine. Man meets woman, they fall in love and in some way or another he gets down on one knee, asks her to marry him, and presents to her the ultimate engagement ring.
I really don't believe I have ever seen or heard of the woman refusing to accept the ring after she has said yes to marrying him, even though, it may be the wrong size and she might not like it. So if this is such a time tested engagement method, then why in the world would anyone want to spoil it by choosing their own engagement ring?
Most women would be overjoyed just with the fact that they are getting married to the one they love, and their boyfriend actually went out and purchased them an engagement ring, or presented them with a family heirloom. Apparently these women are easy to please. Their new fiancé should be thankful for this.
There are though, many women that have daydreamed about this event for years. They have fantasized and planned out every detail of what their specific engagement ring should look like. Not that they are ungrateful, they just have something else in mind.
The subject of marriage and getting engaged is not a simple one to bring up in conversation or talk about. It seems as if this makes the the man or woman appear to be desperate or pushy. Many times the man wants to surprise his girlfriend with an engagement ring and her choosing her own ring would ruin the surprise.
This is an idea. Can you imagine instead of presenting his girlfriend with an engagement ring, he gets down on one knee and hands her a gift card to the local jewelry store. He then proceeds to tell her that he didn't know her ring size or what style she would like so she should go to the jewelers and select whatever she wants. That would be different. Still romantic though.
If you're a man and you are considering proposing marriage to your girlfriend, you could ask her out right about the engagement ring you would like to buy for her. That would make it short and sweet but it would eliminate the surprise factor. You could also take her out on a spectacular date and end it with a trip to the jewelry store where she could choose her engagement
