I believe that luck is in the eye of the beholder. I look at others who I think have had significant good fortune and good luck and realize I know little other than the appearance. I don't know how hard someone has had to work for the things that they have obtained in life. I don't know if they were deserving or if they were "lucky".
Luck is something you make for your self. I have been fortunate enough to have been born in a wealthy country, to be born to middle class parents and to have had a "normal" upbringing. Those were things I couldn't control.
I did well in school, I studied hard at university, I worked to ensure I didn't have any debt when I graduated. Those were things I did for myself. I got a good job out of school because of the course I chose and I have a comfortable middle class lifestyle. I consider those things all to have been within my control.
The only luck I don't know how to make for myself is winning the lottery. Everything else I can work hard for. I suspect to others it looks like "luck".
