Just a few facts: Zurich has an area of about 92 square kilometers making it the largest city in Switzerland, and is often referred to by sources as the cultural capital of the country. Currently, there are nearly 370,000 residents living in the city. The official currency of the country is the Swiss franc. San Francisco in the USA is a twin city of Zurich.
On top of being a hub for financial institutions and business establishments, Zurich is also a haven for the arts, housing galleries, theaters, and museums alike. The Swiss National Museum can be found here, and it features collections from the ancient times up to the 20th century. The Kuntshaus Museum is also notable, which has some of the works of Edvard Munch and Alberto Giacometti.
There are also some people who consider living in Zurich because of the educational institutions located here. The University of Zurich, which caters to more than 25,000 students, has buildings and libraries scattered all over the city. Another notable institution is the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, which specializes in scientific research and is renowned across the globe.
If you have thought about living in this city, then transportation need not be a problem. The S-Bahn or the local train network is readily accessible, as well as city trams and bus lines. The busiest railway station in the country is the Zurich Hauptbahnhof.
For those traveling in and out of Zurich, there is the Cisalpino line, which goes through Switzerland all the way to Italy. The InterCity Express services Denmark, Germany, and Austria. The Zurich International Airport in the city of Kloten is about 10 kilometers away from the Zurich.
There are historic churches located around Zurich, with examples being the Grossmunster and the Fraumunster, both have been standing since the 9th century. A notable church to see is the St. Peter, which features the largest clock face in Europe, with a diameter of nearly 9 meters.
