No Business like show business
Why do actors feel the need to prove they can do more than act and singers feel the need to prove they can do more than sing? Can these celebrities not be happy with just one talent, why must we have to endure their endless foray into the other areas of showbiz? The latest star to turn recording artist is Scarlett Johansson. Now I may be quick to dismiss the beautiful Scarlett's singing career but then one cannot help but cringe when one looks back on the musical history of some of Hollywood's biggest stars. Funny man, Eddie Murphy became the butt of all jokes when he released the unforgettable, "my girl wants to party all the time" followed by "Boogie in your butt." Miami Vice actor Don Johnson should have been arrested for his attempt to set the charts alight and not even the Hoff could rescue himself from chart embarrassment, although it did achieve cheesy heights in Germany.
Its difficult to know which is worse, an actress gone singer or a singer gone actress. Britney, Mariah, Beyonce, and the omen of all singers/actresses Jennifer Lopez have all attempted to jump the singing ship and have found themselves in a sinking acting raft in shark infested waters. Singer/designer/wannabe decent actress Beyonce laid it all out on the table when she said; I'm already a star. I already have nine Grammy's. Everyone knows I can sing," Knowles said. "I did this because I wanted people to know that I can act and I can play someone so different from myself. The problem with this is as follows, Beyonce will never be able to escape her singing career, or the fact that she's Jay Z's missus or former member of girl group Destiny's Child because that is how she primarily achieved her fame, everything else just helps add to her notoriety. So even if Beyonce does her best to try and play someone else onscreen, she'll still be recognized first and foremost as Beyonce and so it is unlikely she will ever be taken seriously as an actress.
It's no wonder that celebs are dropping like flies these days. Their ever constant need to keep busy, to challenge and promote themselves in new ways and humiliate themselves in others is leading them straight down the garden path to rehab. Rehab may just be a sign from the scientology gods telling them they have to slow down. Trying to have your low fat cake and eat it too, will only lead to bad indigestion/chronic alcoholism and drug abuse. Rehab is fast becoming a means of self promotion as every celebrity knows,
