Why people cheat in a relationship

Cheating is one thing that can completely ruin a relationship. It causes doubt and mistrust and leads towards a downhill spiral. The reasons why a person would cheat vary on personality, how they were raised, and the current relationship the individual is having. Now, let's explore the basic reasons why a person would cheat on their partner.

If a person is hungry and there is no food in the house, they go to the grocery store to get some. This is way of meeting the need to overcome hunger. People have other needs that they get in other people such as security, love, someone that listens to them, sex, etc. If that person's need for something that their romantic partner can not fulfill, they go to someone else to meet their need This is understandable, but that doesn't explain why someone wouldn't completely leave someone for another. A person may intellectually and emotionally meet a need for their partner's relationship, but if the sexual need is not met, they will find another person to meet that need; therefore, one person's entire needs are met by two different individuals.,

Another reason is to spite their partner. Anger, spite, and jealousy will lead to a relationship's destruction. If a person cheats out of spite or anger, the relationship was already tumultuous, and the cheater either wanted to see if they could find somebody better for them or was planning to break up with them and wanted to do it in the harshest way possible, Also if the cheater had been cheated on by their significant other in the past, cheating is the perfect revenge.

Lastly, if a person doesn't really care about whom they are dating then they might cheat. They will forget their partner while they are having a fun time. Besides, they'd would obviously rather seize the day and the person grinding on them and deal with the consequences, than be bored with a person they can't remember why they are dating. That leads people to ask why would someone date someone they don't like. The answer is familiarity, and maybe they have been together for awhille and the spark is gone, or the couple was drunk when they started dating. Both of which is not a solid foundation for a relationship, to begin with.

These are the basic reasons why a person would cheat. They come from  negative emotions and an necessary need and unfortunate greed; therefore, it easy to see why it has a detrimental effect on relationships. And if cheating does not murder the entire relationship, the lack of trust certainly will.
