Are you a true romantic? If so, then you already know the answer to this question. Although not required, some sort of engagement gift for your fiancé would certainly be a nice token of your mutual affection. Whether or not you decide to give him a gift of an engagement ring, is simply your personal take on this issue.
Keep in mind, that most times what is brought to mind when someone hears the words "engagement ring" we are talking about some sort of expensive metal band containing one or more diamonds or other precious gemstones.
If you have the resources to make such a purchase, then by all means, go ahead and buy your fiancé an engagement ring. Something similar to the one he bought for you would be appropriate, because they would match and represent the both of you as a couple.
What usually happens though, when two people get engaged, is they begin to a plan for their wedding and their future together. They start saving money and don't want to use their savings for unnecessary expenses. Traditionally the fiancé does not wear an engagement ring. This is when I would suggest a gift of a less expensive ring or something else for the man.
If you prefer not to spend the money on a diamond and gold or platinum ring, you might want to purchase something in sterling silver or 10 karat gold. Besides being less expensive, these metals tend to hold up well during everyday wear and tear.
A plain band would be appropriate because it is not too gaudy and looks similar to a wedding ring. You could also opt for a simple band with some diamond cutting or perhaps his birth or power stone. Initial, signet and Celtic style rings are also quite popular.
Keep in mind that some men just don't like to wear rings. You may have to consider some other form of jewelrysuch as a bracelet, neck chain or pendant, cufflinks or even a a tie tack or clip. Depending upon his occupation,he might have to reserve wearing these just for after work or certain occasions.
There are also men out there that refuse to wear any type of jewelry. In this situation you might have to purchasesomething else for him such as a pricey article of clothing or gift based upon his hobbies or interests.
If you decide to give your fiancé an engagement ring, the act of doing so should represent the love you have for him.He should also wear it because it is a gift from you.
The added bonus of your fiancé wearing an engagement ring on his left hand is that this is sending a physical reminder to others that he is spoken for.
