The argument over legalizing marijuana goes on and on with the main reasons being taxation and Government revenue. The Government needs to be able to tax everything and until they find a way to hold the market on marijuana, this debate is going to continue. It really is just a political controversy to where I believe that the Government is making a fool out of themselves as the evidence unravels the truth about all the benefits that marijuana has. It is excellent with dealing with nausea if from cancer treatments or the cachexia that is experienced with the advanced stages of AIDS. Marijuana eases the ocular pressure that is experienced with glaucoma. It is used in conjunction with pain management particularly useful in neuropathic pain (nerve damage pain). There has been recent research and studies conducted that support that marijuana has medicinal advantage that may protect the body against some types of malignant tumors.
Marijuana was legal up until the 1930’s and then there came prohibition, that has caused many more problems that it has solved, and ruins the lives of so many more, as it proclaims to supposedly be trying protect them. It also costs taxpayers right around $10 billion a year just for the government to apprehend and convict marijuana crop owners and cultivators and there are so many arrests for this. The total being far more than the arrests for all violent crimes combined. Does that not sound a bit crazy?
Now the media leads people to believe that marijuana is a gateway drug and I suppose it could be, but what if marijuana was legal. Then the buyer would not have to go to these shady places to begin with that do most often sell more than marijuana. Then the person is exposed to more than he originally intended set out to do, leaving him vulnerable or enticed to try more. Marijuana is so much less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes, and there has been studies conducted that show the amount of deaths caused by marijuana, and that number comes out to be ZERO. Unlike alcohol that leaves millions dead or inflicted by its effect.
I believe that the Government should legalize responsible use of marijuana do to the fact that it is less harmful of any drug out there, and has medicinal benefits that prove to be true and correct. If the Government wants to have control then fine, put an age limit on it or guidelines to follow, but quit making the occasional smoker that likes to come home from work and smoke a “blunt”
