Making friends online might seem a bit daunting at first glance. When you are online you have to try and convey your personality through text. Although this is not the easiest thing to do, if you are comfortable with email, chat or texting, or are good at communicating through the written word, making online friends might not be that hard.
Making friends online can truly be a great and fun experience. Not only because you have someone to talk to but because you can meet a much more varied group of people than you would come across in real life.
Online friends might be those that you chat with online, but they may come to be more over time. If you meet friends online that live close to you, they may even become real life friends. Soon you may have a new workout buddy or someone willing to help you out of a jam.
Be Honest
When trying to make friends online it is important to be honest. There is no point lying about your background or status to try and impress others. Telling someone that you have a mansion and a yacht when you don’t is a bad idea. You want to make friends who like you for who you are, not who you make yourself out to be.
Avoid Being Pushy
Although being pushy may gain you more friends in the beginning, in the long term it will push your online friends away. Remember, an online friend can easily block you or hide from you online. If a friend doesn’t like your behavior it is as simple as ignoring you online. Avoid being pushy and you won’t have to face a friend dumping you.
Keep it Clean
If you are looking for romance or sex, visit the adult sites. Finding online friends should be about good clean fun. If you do or say things that make people uneasy you will quickly lose friends. Along the same lines, make sure that any profile pictures that you post of yourself online are respectable. Nothing will turn potential friends off more quickly than seeing photos that make them uncomfortable.
Where to Meet Online Friends
Spots to find online friends include chat rooms, social networks, and other places online where people congregate. Think about what you want to get out of a friendship. Casual chat friends might talk to you once and never again. Social networking friends are more likely to connect with you on a frequent basis.
If you follow those simple rules you just might find your self a friend that lasts a lifetime. If not, at the very least, you will definitely widen your social circle. The best part about online friends is that they are never more than a click away.
