Public school uniforms is a debate that has been raging for many years. Many school facility, parents, and students believe that uniforms is a wonderful idea but many still do not. Points good and bad can both be made on the debate.
Pros:
Children learn better with less distraction. Clothes and fashion are often distractions especially for teenagers. If there were uniforms in the school this obstacle would be eliminated altogether.
There would be less harassment in the school. Children would no longer have to worry about being made fun of because their clothing was different or not a name brand. Everyone would dress alike so there would be no reason to laugh or make a joke about the way anyone was dressed.
Schools could have less violence. If everyone looks alike and are dressed the same there would be less harassment also leading to less violence. If children are not made fun of or questioned there would be no need to defend themselves.
Schools would no longer have to worry about if what students were wearing was offensive to anyone. Many schools have a ban on any type of clothing that has any labels or graphics pertaining to alcohol, tobacco,or nudity. Schools also have to make sure that what each student is wearing is appropriate for themselves and not to short or revealing. Without these worries teachers and facility could spend more of their time helping the students to learn and excel.
Children could actually learn better. With less distractions such as fashion, violence, and harassment children would have more time to focus their attention on the things they came to school for in the first place...to learn.
With more learning children might find better ways to stay out of trouble and keep from being expelled from school. If children have half a chance to study and learn most enjoy the process so if uniforms could get the child half interested in their purpose in school the bad kids could transform into some of the best students.
Cons:
There is no way for children to express themselves. With uniforms there is no way that children can express themselves openly with their own sense of style. It can be a bit confusing for children since they are taught from an early age to be themselves and express their thoughts and feelings.
There may be disobedience issues. Since children can not openly express how they feel with clothing they may resort to other measures for attention. They may refuse to wear the uniforms altogether forcing them to be removed from the school.
Some children may choose to drop out of school if their age permits. Children who are strong against uniforms may decide to just quit school or transfer to another school without uniforms. Children tend to rebel quicker than adults and this could be a issue that would cause them to rebel.
With the pros and cons laid out each school must decide for themselves based on their facility and students. If they think it would help the school to have uniforms once everything is laid out then uniforms needs to be added as policy if the cons out weight the pros then uniforms should be forgotten about. The school needs to have meetings before inducing a uniform policy so that all opinions can be heard from parents as well as students. Once decided upon the decision needs to take effect as soon as possible.
