Good poetry comes from either the heart or the mind or both...great poetry, the best poetry, always comes from the heart. If one has the talent or gift for writing, and they love doing what they do, that poetry is coming right from the heart. Even those who lack the talent, but have the passion, their poetry holds a beauty that cannot be matched by the coldest of poems written by the greatest of technical writers.

The best poetry expresses deep emotions and tells a story that one must read to feel, not just see. The best poetry is symbolic for the very emotions it wishes to convey. Poetry in and of itself is art and art is created with pure emotion. Poetry specifically though, it is the telling of emotions through words and thought. A poet uses words to paint a picture in the mind, words like thread that weave a tapestry one must hear to see. Poetry like a painting and a novel combined. Words that sculpt a story, poetry is like every art form there is expressed through word and emotion just like every art form is poetry...pure and simple.

These kinds of emotional expressions can come from nowhere but the heart. The mind may be involved, after all...we do need the mind to write poetry as well. Yet, in the end, without heart any poem has the potential of being cold and lifeless.

The best of any creation comes from the heart.
