One of the best things about ghost hunting is that just about anyone can do it; as long as you’re not afraid of the dark or things that go bump in the night. Unlike the guys you see on TV you really don’t need all that fancy equipment. You could make contact with a spirit with nothing more than a flashlight and a tape recorder. But if you have the money you can easily find most of that fancy equipment on the internet.

Paranormal activity is actually a rare occurrence especially when you’re looking for it. So your best bet for actually making contact with a ghost is to go in prepared. Do some research about the location you’re investigating, sit down with the people who live in the house and listen to their stories. Let them tell you as much information as possible and take notes. Then go on the internet and head to the library and do some research. Check out the history of the property. Find out if there have been any natural disasters or tragic deaths at the location. See if you can learn names of past owners or anyone who may have passed away there. By having some names and scenarios will give you a better chance of making contact with any spirits that remain there.

Before you turn off all the lights and start investigating do a walk through of the property and get familiar with it. Safety is always your first priority when conducting a ghost hunt. The biggest dangers are those in the material world not the spiritual. Set up any equipment you have like cameras, recorders, etc. before you go dark. The best time to start your investigation is later in the night when it is dark outside and the world around you isn’t so busy. The reason ghost hunters work at night isn’t because of any magic ‘witching hour’ but because at night there are less distractions and less interference from the outside world. Plus our body is more naturally in tune with everything around it. Our mind is more relaxed and senses are more heightened at night.

Never investigate alone. Always have at least one other person with you. Ghost hunting can be a little unnerving sometimes. Our brains have a way of playing games with us when we’re alone in the dark. But when we’re with someone else we feel safer. Plus it is always a good idea to have someone there to help out if anything dangerous should happen. And if something incredible does happen you’ll have someone else there to witness it and back up your story. Start off in the
