Christina Aguilera's infamous voice is unique and almost spiritual to listen to and her older albums gave a classic theme of feminine troubles and romance; however, her new Bionic album, which tried to fuse the latest genres of music into one album, does not do her talents any justice. The singer's album, in keeping up with Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé's latest fusion pop and electro music, tried to duplicate the new shock pop theme of aggressive female stories of fighting back female stereotypes and focusing on building female character. The song 'Not Myself Tonight' is a good example of the returning feminist theme, but it is not uncommon and basically copies the concept from previous singers. While it is true that Lady Gaga's music is more electro sounding and her looks are unique and shock-fashion-like, her songs are upbeat, popular, and uncommonly themed enough for fans to fall head over heels over.
The new take on Rihanna's music is also very raunchy, robust, and dark featuring more primal sounding electro that is darker than Lady Gaga, but just as addictive. What makes these stars' albums sell more than Christina Aguilera is the mere fact that they produced their albums first and their hits were noticed before hers. Although many of her songs did not meet the standards of Rihanna or Lady Gaga's status, a few of her songs are still being played here and there. Unfortunately, since Aguilera's album tried to incorporate all types of themes and experimental themes, there was a serious lack of originality that was once a small part of her fame. Unlike most of the previous albums, her voice is hidden by hard beats and electronic voice over synchrony and that has taken away a major attractive feature of her music.
Christina Aguilera's album cover looked far more exciting than the actual musical pieces that lies within. Since the failure of her album, the singer's tours are still being canceled due to low ticket sales. Some of the press has made assumptions that her album's new incorporation of trying to keep up with the changing times was a push made exclusively by her producers and agent more so than her; however, it is still unknown whether or not her new life has had a major impact on her. While she explains in her interviews that she feels her heart was poured in this album, her music feels a little too unoriginal and rushed in terms of musical quality. Another factor may be the lack of publicity for her album. With only a few teaser clips available of the songs, fans were unprepared when they realized that only one of two of the songs were decent enough to be paid for while the rest, sadly seemed a waste; however, the album did it number three in best selling, but it was very short lived and quickly shot down in a matter of days.
Whether it have been a rushed production, a lack of control over the project, or trying to keep up with a different type of genre other than the tradition genres, Christina Aguilera's Bionic album simply did not sell. Perhaps it was a lack of publicity or the fact that there was really no other way to be original anymore with the new use of shock-pop. In trying to keep up with the times, her songs have lost their past steamy vocals and great performances. Nevertheless, this singer's path to a better album can still occur if she avoids conforming to other singer's change of musical pace and continues focusing on what she had best, a very unique and specific voice that should not be hidden or changed by electronic means.
