Teenage superstars were never a rare breed, but most of the time, these teens do not continue to hold onto their fame. Britney Spears was a teenage superstar that hit the music industry with so much force that parents throughout the globe had to protect their spare change from getting spent on Spears' music and accessories. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, did not begin her musical career from scratch like Britney Spears had. Unlike Spears, Miley Cyrus' father had already been around the musical career road before.
Some people may not remember or never noticed, but Spears, at one time, was part of The Mickey Mouse Club and therefore did have a strong Disney influence at a very early age much like Cyrus. The two were first teen stars with the later still being fairly young, some people will go to lengths regarding the fact that musically the two are very alike in some sense, while others will say their musical abilities are dramatically different.
Truth be told, both stars perform pop genre music and both can be seen touring around the nation. The only difference being Britney Spears, who has a global fame, outweighs Miley Cyrus, who is still trying to gain a larger international audience, in stardom. For instance, Britney Spears' older albums can still be heard in malls around Thailand and India whereas Miley Cyrus' music is foreign to them; however, accessories for Cyrus can be found globally due to off shore industrial production.
While Spears' music has a more sexual undertone, Miley Cyrus' songs are still innocent and youthful. Some parents would say that due to her acting career with Disney, Miley Cyrus would have to maintain a more youthful personality if she wants to remain famous. Spears' music is no longer for the innocent minded younger crowd; her maturity and sexuality is even more propelled by the attention the media has given her and her family in the past. Miley Cyrus' media coverage is still in the works and she is often overshadowed by more "mature" artists; however, comparing Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears is not unheard of at all.
For instance, Katy Perry's remarks about Miley Cyrus were almost insulting as she compared her to Britney Spears included the prediction that Miley Cyrus would end up falling apart due to her teenage transition into fame. She also made it clear that Miley Cyrus' outfits are never going to be as nice as Britney Spears and claims that Cyrus lacks the sexual appeal that Spears, to this day, still manages to hold. Although Miley Cyrus is no longer sporting a pre-teen body, her fans and the general public, including other stars, do not view her as a sexual object, which greatly sells in the music industry, but more as a child voicing childish innocence and trying to enter a world of adults using a change in musical style, such as including more mature love and dating themes that may be considered borderline sexual, but not as overly sexual as Spears'.
Britney Spears, unlike Miley Cyrus, continues to rank in fans and millions of dollars whereas Miley Cyrus, who is slowly being considered a one-hit wonder, is now becoming a part of the every day singer/actress role, which requires constantly coming up with something new in order to please fans. The question now remains, can Miley Cyrus avoid becoming a Britney Spear's heir, which includes hardship and trauma throughout adulthood, or will she too fall like the pop star?
