Motorcyclists should always wear helmets. There is no doubt at all that not wearing a helmet is not beneficial or sensible to the driver of the motorcycle. Driving a motorcycle is enjoyable for some people, however, with driving a motorcycle comes the increased risk in auto accidents. Also, since motorcyclists are less protected than car drivers, they have the potential to become much more severely injured in auto accidents. Although wearing a helmet cannot solve all problems when an auto accident occurs, it can help to protect the motorcycle rider from receiving as serious an injury as he or she could have without wearing a helmet.

Wearing a helmet is more important and necessary than people may desire to believe. Protecting the head is very crucial, especially when driving a motorcycle. Brain damage can happen very easily within an accident. Brain damage is something that is very devastating and most of the time irreversible. The helmet is so hard, that is has the potential to protect the head greatly when a motorcyclist falls. This protection can help to reduce the severity of the brain damage. When riding a motorcycle, most people immediately think of how much fun it is. This is fine, yet they should also think about all of the risks involved. The biggest risk involved is that of an auto accident. No matter how good the driver of the motorcycle is, there are always going to be other drivers on the road that do not understand how to follow the rules. Many of these drivers may be in larger vehicles, making the accident that much worse. With this in mind, the driver of the motorcycle must always take the proper safety precautions. This means wearing a helmet. It does not matter whether or not the driver does not likes the style of the helmet. Wearing a helmet is about being safe, not about looking stylish. Think about it this way. If a horrible accident were to occur, the first thing that the driver would be concerned over is his or her health, not about how he or she looks.

Some people may feel that wearing a helmet is not necessary. They may value looks too significantly, or believe that the helmet will not do enough to protect the motorcyclist. They may believe that wearing a helmet should be a matter of choice, and not a mandatory requirement. In all honesty, the helmet stands as a symbol of the value of maintaining safety. If the driver cares about being safe, than he or she would wear a helmet. It is as simple as that.
