How to think like a genius

Will All the Geniuses Please Stand Up?

There is an enormous difference between intelligence and genius. The difference is creativity. We are fascinated by geniuses and aspire to be geniuses and certainly want our children to be geniuses as unique and brilliant as Albert Einstein or Bobby Fischer. Yet when we think genius we immediately think high IQ over one-forty-five and MENSA candidates. This is not necessarily true.

“Nobody in my family has a high IQ, so I'll never be a genius.” Tendencies of high, low or average intelligence might be inherited, but genius is not. The most well read person or the one who has degrees up and down both arms is an intelligent thinker with plenty of goal-achieving drive and determination and is and expert in a chosen field, but he-she may not be a genius. Conversely, having a low IQ or being a slow thinker does not disqualify you from the genius pool. Look at Albert Einstein.

There is but one attribute typical to all genius, creativity.

We are all a born genius, but some how forgot it as we became adults. In Scientific America Karen Schrock said, “Imaginary worlds are an early sign of creative kids. All kids like to use their imagination and many play fantasy games where they pretend to be characters in a made up world. Some children persist in building especially elaborate imaginary worlds, with impressive depth in terms of histories, taxonomies, language and maps.” All research now points to creativity as the defining characteristic of genius and a child's elaborately detailed, persistent world play as the marker of a creative genius. You have the ability to develop and exploit the powerful sleeping giant of your unique genius. You can regain your forgotten imaginative creativity by becoming childlike with a vivid and detailed imagination.

A genius is a dreamer. Daydreaming or night dreaming is when your conscious mind goes to sleep and your subconscious mind wakes up. Your creative imagination resides in the subconscious. The way the two minds converse is intuition. Geniuses have a strong intuitive connection between the conscious and subconscious minds. When you accept creative thoughts into your conscious mind your genius increases exponentially. Listen to and act on intuition's voice, your blood knowledge, inner knowing, premonition or sixth sense.

Geniuses have multiple-intelligence and multiple perspectives. Carl Jung called it the many “I” personalities. Gestalt says the whole mind
