Window treatments add so much to your home. They are an important aspect of your home’s décor. Because of this, window treatments should never be boring. With a little creativity and your unique personality, you can come up with inventive ideas for the window treatments for all the windows in your home.
Pull out the music. Using a hot glue gun, attach the records to your window’s valance. This simple idea is great for family rooms. Your teen might even like using their old CDs to create a valance for their bedroom.
Go natural. Cover a valance with silk flowers. Add to the country style of your kitchen by hot gluing daisies on the valance. Add a bit of romance in your bedroom and make a rosebud-covered valance. Use a smooth piece of driftwood as a curtain rod in your beach-themed bathroom. Thin branches from other types of trees can be used for a rustic look.
Make your shabby chic kitchen really shine and use aprons for curtains. Simply thread the curtain rod through the apron strings and waistband. Hang the curtains as if they were café-style curtains.
Create a window treatment that doesn’t stain as easily for the window in front of your kitchen sink by using a shower curtain. Cut the shower curtain (made of a cloth-like plastic) to fit the window and hang as you would other curtains. When the curtain gets splashed with soapy water, simply wipe with a clean cloth.
Sheets and thin hand towels can also be used to make window treatments. Use sheets for larger windows and thin hand towels for smaller windows. Linen napkins can make great valances and cafe curtains as well.
Create window treatments fit for a princess for your daughter’s bedroom. Add feathers, rhinestones and faux pearls to add glamour to ordinary curtains. Use rhinestone or faux pearl necklaces as tiebacks.
Get creative when it comes to the window treatments in a baby’s nursery. For a baby boy’s room, cover the valance with little pairs of jeans. Use lacy dresses for the valance of a baby girl’s room. When creating curtains for a baby that hasn’t arrived yet, cover the valance with sleepers or small stuffed animals.
Window treatments add a lot of personality to your home. Make sure those window treatments are a reflection your personality and not just straight-from-the-store draperies. Get creative and have a little fun when dressing your windows. A little imagination will a add a lot to your window treatments and entire home.
