School of Rock is an American comedy from 2003, starring actor Jack Black. School of Rock's running time is 125 minutes for the Special Collector's Edition, although running times vary from the different issues of the film. School of Rock was directed by Richard Linklater.

The film is a story about a regular school class, whose teacher gets sick. A substitute steps in her place, Dewey Finn (Jack Black), presenting himself as Mr. Schneebly, his roommate and the real substitute, to earn money for his rent. Throughout the film Finn struggles to convince Rosalie Mullins (Joan Cusack) that he is a real substitute.

Dewey Finn is a burning rock 'n' roller, and he teaches the students in the class about rock. The kids are in the beginning resistant to the idea, but as they learn the genre they change their minds. Finn learns the kids to play togheter as a band, signing the class up for the Battle of the Bands, a rock contest. While Dewey Finn are having classes with the kids, they practice their music secretly in the class. Finn learns them about not just playing the music, but also feeling it, how to act like a rock star. In the Battle of the Bands Finns class battles the rock band Finn was a former member of, the band No Vacancy.

The film features good acting, a nice original story, and decent characters. School of rock is not a film one has got to see, but its a nice film to break the monotony of current Hollywood movies. Also, unlike other films, the child acting in this film is impressive. The story gives each character of the film charisma. Each character has their own problems, as for example with their parents, resistant to let them play rock music, in favour of classical music. This is the situation of

School of Rock features a lot of original famous rock songs, for example songs from Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. That has a good effect on the film.

School of Rock is a recommendable film, with its originality, its great actors, and its exciting plot. The film appeals to everyone interested in comedy and having a good laugh. School of Rock is memorable, definitely a good film.

The sequel to School of Rock; School of Rock 2: America Rocks, was confirmed on 14th of July 2008.

All in all, a nice add to one's collection of comedy films.
