You may be the only Bible some people will ever read
The implications are daunting. What an awesome assignment to come out of this statement. The idea that “you may be the only Bible some people will ever read”, gets to the heart of the matter, doesn’t it.
In essence, it’s about The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
Jesus gave His disciples an assignment . . . to go out into the world where they were to make disciples of all nations and baptize them.
Imagine the signs, wonders and miracles witnessed by the first Christians at the time that the Apostle Paul wrote most of the Epistles. Early Christians probably heard the “Word” of God from the priests. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Romans 10:17 - “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”
Today we have the capacity to encounter a multitude of folks, face-to- face, electronically by cell phone, email and through social networking. We don’t have to be preachy and self righteous. More important than what we say is what others see or perceive. Actions speak volumes.
Have you ever noticed how some Christ-centered folk carry themselves in such a way that you just know “whose” they are? It’s as though there’s an energy that emanates from their being. They may be dealing with lack, loss or a betrayal but they still manage to encourage you. They’re still a pleasure to be around. It make’s you “want whatever they’re having”.
It’s the “little things” that seem to matter most like taking time out. Sometimes, all that’s needed is some encouragement, a kind word, consideration. It’s a start!
We all have this Christ shaped cavity within us that needs to be filled. Sooner or later we seek fulfillment.
Folks are definitely seeking. That’s why there is so much fascination with the current popular culture craze, Twilight/vampire movies, magic, and the occult.
Oh, to be a child of the most high God, to hunger and thirst for His righteousness . . . to have a relationship with Abba Father that is full of quiet worship and exuberant praise at the dawning of a new day … to always want to please Him and to seek the desires of His heart because you caught a glimpse, a vision of the Kingdom one day, after a particularly ferocious summer storm. Streaming ethereal light filters through crisp, wet tree branches, you look up and get a glimpse of magnificent splendor where everything is vibrating praise.
So even when you have to deal with life’s mundane issues like a condescending boss, a moody friend, a headache or the hurtful comments of an insensitive aunt and still be able to have a relationship with your Heavenly Father who is right there with you in the midst of your adversity. Folks are observing your actions and reactions.
If we can shine a light and let others get a glimpse of the Kingdom, through our actions and our words, long enough to want to seek Him . . . to understand the desires of His heart. His mercy . . . His grace, then perhaps folks can begin to fathom that “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (New King James Version)
