Tips for women dating single dads

Without sounding offensive to all the single men out there, the truth of the matter is, they are still highly in demand. And with the pool of men continuing to get smaller and smaller, many women, including newly single women, are choosing to date singe dads. Some of these single fathers have full custody of their minor children, and this can make dating a challenge for both the man and woman.

Twenty years ago, a lot of women chose not to date a man with children for various reasons. But, with the changes in family dynamics, those options have been narrowed drastically. With the rise of marriages ending for whatever reason, be it divorce or death, etc., more men are now the head of single parent households. Some single fathers were never married to begin with, and circumstances may have caused them to have full or partial custody of their children.

These days, the rate of single fathers is growing daily. A lot of men have children, some grown, living with them full time. And, of course, there were so many who have joint or partial custody, which limits their social activity and availability.

First, be Prepared to be Number 2, or 3, or 4, or 5, or ...

A lot of men over 40 have very young children, which can be very demanding upon him, and somewhat stressful to someone trying to forge a friendship or relationship with him.

When children become ill, plans can change in an instant - no matter what weekend it is. They need medicine and soup brought over right away; they need a trip to the ER; they need comfort and attention; they need their dad.

Children of a certain age are involved in activities that probably will not involve Dad bringing a date. A daughter has a dance or music recital; a son may be his little league's starring pitcher; or, they both have soccer matches at the same time. Some of these engagements will frequently involve the children's mother, and for one more evening, they are once again a family unit. When these events happen children need encouragement; they need a familiar face cheering them on or soothing them when they did not do so well; they need their dad.

Sometimes a child has trouble with school, or with his or her peers. There are times when children, under the stress of a torn relationship, may have a disagreement with their mother. When these things come up, they need their dad.

Small things, that may seem insignificant and trivial to you will pop up from time to time. Mom goes on a business trip, a vacation,
