An increasing number of outlets in the UK now use what is known as 'chip and pin' technology - where instead of signing for your purchase when using a credit or debit card, you enter your 'pin' number. This technology seems very good and certainly speeds up time waiting at the till.
However, what if you pop down to your local store and only want a chocolate bar or newspaper? Old fashioned cash is the answer ! Some smaller outlets cannot afford the 'chip and pin' machines anyway.
Cash will always have a place in todays society - how do you teach your child the value of money? When buying something from the small ads, cash is the only way. Its a good bartering tool to have a bundle of tempting notes to get the seller to come down in price - and speaking for myself, I don't have a swipe machine for plastic in my house - does anyone?
