I normally don't use an article to respond to someone else's article, but since the very title of this one is tied to GOPMOM's article, I don't have much choice. It seems that anytime something happens in the public arena that a Republican dislikes or disagrees with, they immediately blame the "liberal agenda". I'm surprised that the Tsunami in Indonesia a few years back wasn't blamed on the Liberals' takeover of oceanic tectonic plates.

As far as the Girl Scouts are concerned, how dare they focus on things like positive body image. We don't need our daughters growing up with a positive self-image. That could destroy the cosmetic and fashion industries and force America's economy to its knees. And that's something the GOP just can't have.

The idea that the Girl Scouts are tackling social issues is not a bad one. Our daughters can't discuss these things in school (too busy preparing for useless standardized tests), and don't discuss them at home (everyone is too busy watching American Idol, a show which gives no one a positive self-image). Better to learn about these things in a supportive, moderated environment than from MTV or Vogue.
