Many freelance writers find themselves overwhelmed at the numerous writing sites available to them.  The problem often comes in deciding which ones are the best ones for earning money. Freelance writers can pick and choose the individual platforms that work best for them based on earnings, layout and structure.  Before signing up on any online writing sites to write and earn money, freelancers should read the terms of service so that they understand what they are agreeing to. Here are some of the best online writing sites to write and earn money.

• Helium - There are hundreds of great writers who write and earn money at Helium. Writers can earn money from contests and marketplace offerings and from page views.  There are several categories that you can write to and if you cannot find a title that you like, you can suggest one for approval.  Articles should be knowledge based and outside of titles in Creative Writing, first person writing should be avoided.

• HubPages - Freelance writers who love to write original content and enhance it with videos, photographs, rich HTML formatting and affiliate products will love HubPages.  HubPages prohibits duplicate content but, many freelance writers consider HubPages one of the best online writing sites to write and earn money. Earnings come from page views (you will need your AdSense publisher number) as well as a number of affiliate programs.  You are free to remove any Hub after it is published if you wish to use it on another site.

• Squidoo - Much like HubPages, Squidoo is a Web2.0 site that allows writers to utilize a variety of enhanced formatting options to create their "Squids". Squids are assembled using a variety of modules that are easy to select from the Squidoo menu.  Squidoo does not restrict content, it may be published elsewhere on the net.  You may also remove any lens at any time by going to your Squidoo dashboard. Your earnings build up and you are paid by Squidoo to your PayPal account. Earnings are from page views and affiliate sales (if used).

• Wikinut - Wikinut is an up and coming writing site that is based in the UK.  This site allows you to write articles and guides based on specific categories.  You select the titles you want and you write your articles to your preference.  Your articles do not have to be original, they may be posted on your blog or on other writing sites.
