Evan Almighty is the sequel to Bruce Almighty, although in my opinion it is no where near as good.
The film stars Evan Baxter, played by Steve Carell, who becomes a junior congressman. He and his family move house so he can start his new job but all does not go to plan and he ends up praying to god to help him live up to his campaign slogan, 'change the world'. Unbeknown to Evan god was listening to his prayer and he starts to send him tools and wood ever day at 6.14am. Evan doesn't realise at first where the wood and tools have come from but eventually he takes notice of the clues and refers to his bible. Genesis chapter 6 verse 14, and sees that it is the part where Noah builds the ark.
Evan finally meets God and thinks he is going crazy when he learns his task is to build an ark. He tries to carry on his day job but animals start to flock to him two by two and he has no choice but to do the job.
Will Evan be able to build the ark, will his family finally think he has gone crazy and will the animals ever leave him alone?
The film was watch able but did not do justice to the first, Bruce Almighty. The characters were all very good in their parts, but the film was lacking in the comedy department.
It was good to see Morgan Freeman carry on with his role of God and he played the part very well. I thought the character of Even could have been made better as I did enjoy seeing Steve Carell in the 40 Year old Virgin, more comedy from the character would have improved the film.
The effects which they used with the animals were all very good and believable. I do think that the animals were the actual stars of the film. The story line was quite good but I hope that they do not try and make another film based on the same story.
The run time of the film is 1 hour and 32 minutes, which I feel is quite long enough as the story would have dragged if they made it longer. The film has a PG certificate which is very appropriate as it is a family film. I think children would enjoy this more than adults which is a shame as Bruce Almighty did have some adult jokes in which this film just lacked.
The film was directed by Tom Shadyac and Produced by Tom Shadyac, Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum, Neal H Mortiz and Michael Bostick.
The DVD does have some extra features which include:-
Deleted scenes
Outtakes
The Ark-intects of Noahs Ark
Becoming Noah
Steve Carell unscripted
Animals On Set two by two
The almighty green set
Its easy being Green
Acts of Random kindness
A Flood of visual effects
Casting Call: Serengeti
Easter Egg
I did not bother to watch the extras, because I was disappointed with the film and saw no point in watching them.
I paid £3 for my copy of the DVD from Asda. I am so glad I got it for the bargain price because I was quite disappointed with it.
