The film stars Steven Straits who is portrayed as a small boy at the beginning of the film, his father deserts their tribe to go in search of food but he asked his beast friend not to say why he left so he was considered a traitor. Steven's character grew up believing his father was in fact a traitor and was not happy about it. When he is a boy, a blue eyed girl is bought to the tribe and she tells of '4 legged demons' who destroyed her tribe and took all the men and boys and killed the women. The old lady of the tribe warns of their coming and says it will happen on the last hunt of the year.
The last hunt of the year begins and the man who kills the first mammoth will be given the honour of holding the white stick which is used for killing the mammoths. Steven's character is the one who does this task and he is portrayed as this brave fighter. He later returns the white stick to his fathers best friend and says that he is not brave and the mammoth did in fact walk into his shear.
Steven's character has fallen in love with the blue eyed girl who was bought to them many years ago, Evolet is her name, she is played by Camilla Belle, he would do anything to protect her and he has to give her up when he returns the white stick but he tells her that he will always love her.
After the last hunt, the '4 legged demons' do turn up and they take the men from the tribe. The 4 legged demons are in fact men on horse back and they also take a shine to Evolet and decide to take her as well. Steven's character and his father's best friend decide to follow the horses and free their men.
Their journey takes they a long way from home through different countries where they have to battle against different animals and creatures. They do meet another tribe who have also been visited by the horse back men. They talk of how the kidnapped are taken to a far point and then the giant birds come and the men are never seen again. Steven's character and the new tribe he has met strike up a friendship and agree to go and fight the horse back men and free their people. Along the way a big army is formed from different tribes.
Will they be successful in freeing their men before they reach the giant birds and just what are the giant birds and where do they go. Will Evolet ever be rescued?
This film is set in 10,000 BC so I cannot actually comment on what is real and what has been made up. My husband says that the Egyptians did not in fact use mammoths when using the pyramids, I did think that
