Credit card debt has become a growing global problem that has heightened significantly over the last five years. While banks have learned their lessons from predatory lending practices, consumers still seem hungry to get access to more credit. Most people don't realize they are in debt until they are so deep in debt that they can no longer afford to make the minimum payments.
If you want to pay off debt quickly there are several approaches that you can take. The most common approach is oftentimes referred to as the "Snowball" method. This involves paying the minimum on all of your debts while paying anything extra you can each month to one card. This will help you focus all of your additional money on that one card and help you pay it off quicker.
Credit card debt can carry a high interest rate, causing the debtor (you) to pay much more than the amount that was originally borrowed. This is what oftentimes angers and confuses credit card owners. When they initially got the cards they never expected to carry a balance but over time they've relied on it a bit too much and ended-up in debt.
If you cannot afford to make even the minimum payments on your credit cards then you might want to consider debt settlement. While debt settlement will ruin your credit rating it will help you dramatically reduce your debt and pay it off quickly. The biggest problem with debt settlement is that it stays on your record for seven years. This means that other creditors probably won't want to lend you money since they've seen you settle with other lenders.
Finally, one of the most effective ways to pay off debt quickly is to borrow money from friends or family. This is money that you can usually borrow interest-free which could save you tens of thousands of dollars in the long-run. The biggest problem with borrowing money from friends and family is that it can put a strain on the relationship.
If you have found yourself deep in debt, don't worry, you can and will pay off your debt, you just have to pick the strategy that is best for you and remember, like anything, paying off debt takes time. If you pick a strategy and stick to it you'll be surprised how quickly you can pay off your debt and begin living life debt-free.
