Mobile or cell phones are more and more a frequent part of people’s daily lives; many people from all walks of life now have them.  Some people are unable to get one with a contract or may simply choose not to be tied down to one.  Still other people prefer to know they are spending money they have without risking running up large bills.  This is where the prepaid or pay as you go mobile or cell phone is a useful addition to the market.  The option of a prepay phone is open to anyone with money in their pocket.

Many stores and supermarkets now sell prepay phones, most mobile or cell phone service providers offer these types of phone.  There are no credit checks or contracts to agree to, you simply go in pick the phone you want and pay for it.  They can be expensive but there are cheaper ones if you want a more basic phone, if you already have a phone you may be able to get a sim card there are a few companies who offer these free (they of course make money when you buy credit).  They tend to seem more expensive then contract phones but just remember the cost is hidden somewhere in that contract.

Prepaid or pay as you go phones are just that mobile or cell phones that you have to prepay to use.  This is usually via a card you can purchase in many shops or over the internet.  You then activate these minutes or credit as directed.

Compared to contract phones both text and message rates can be more expensive on a prepay phone, this is only a downside if you use your phone excessively.  If you are a person who uses it sparsely a prepay phone can be a financially more attractive option.  It can also be a good choice to give to your children as it allows you much greater control over the expense of having a mobile or cell phone.

Every service providers offer different rates and deals even on prepay phones so take some time to check them out and find the one right for you.  The staff in a mobile or cell phone shop may even point you in the right direction.

There is no commitment with a contract phone you are legally bound to pay at least the monthly charge for the length of the contract, with a prepay phone there are no such stipulations.  Should you choose not to use the phone the only cost to you is that of any credit remaining on the phone.
