How to factory reset your HTC EVO

Sprints release of the HTC EVO had customers raving about its 4G capabilities. The device is truly golden as far as its mobile hot-spot options and tethering speeds are concerned. The device is truly high tech and even a month after its release, it is still back ordered.

With the device being the worlds first 4G phone, you can expect it to have some glitches. Although they are minor and can be repaired by doing a simple hard reset on the device, spending hours on the line with Sprints advanced technical support team can be tiring. In most cases, a hard reset is the resolution for all issues except error 67 and any data connection issues.

Although a hard reset may seem drastic, it will get you back to where you need to be. What this reset does is completely remove everything from the device and restore it back to its original settings.

You will lose all your contacts, so it is recommended that you backup your phone using HTC Sync, which is available for download on the HTC website. You will want to do a full sync of your contacts and calendar.

All photos saved to the device will be lost. If you can transfer your photos to your devices Micro SD card, it will prevent you from losing all your music and photos. While doing the factory reset, you must remove your Micro SD card from your EVO to avoid losing your photos or formatting the card.

Your custom data profile will also be lost, so you will have to setup your email accounts again as well. Be sure to have all email account passwords available before you do this reset. If you do not know your accounts password, you will not be able to sync it to your device. Some mail providers require you enter information such as server address and port numbers. If this is a business email, you can contact your companies help desk to get the information.

Once you have all the proper information, you can then go ahead with the factory reset by following the steps listed below.

From the Home Screen press "Menu", Tap on "Settings" then "Privacy", then "Factory data reset", and finally Reset phone.

If you are locked out of your phone and cannot perform these actions, you can follow the steps listed below as well.

With the device turned off, press and hold the volume down button (located at the right panel of the device), and then press the power button

When the devices display turns on, release the volume down button

Use the volume buttons to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press the power button.
