Memoirs: How I use the internet

by Jared Davidson

Created on: July 25, 2010

The Internet is probably one of the biggest achievements in our lifetime. More businesses, more advertising and more leisure time is spent online than any other place. I use the Internet for many different things. My work, some of my social life, studying and research are all things I personally use the Internet for.

My work basically requires the use of the Internet as I work in a Helpdesk environment and a lot of my troubleshooting is solved by things found on the Internet. Almost every type of problem has occurred to someone else and it has been fixed before. This information is sure to be posted on someones site or on a blog.

Socially I use the Internet to keep in touch with friends. I have had accounts on myspace and facebook as well as other less popular social networking sites. I share pictures and videos through these websites and help me keep in touch with friends.

I also use the Internet for monetary reasons. I am a member of several advertising programs through various sites. I write articles on helium.com, Associatedcontent.com and Bukisa.com. I post photographs on picable.com, shareapic.net and associatedcontent.com for monetary compensation. I also use the internet to take surveys as a third way to make extra money. The sites I find most popular for this is Surveyhead.com. If you can get an invite into e-rewards it is a good site as well.

The most common thing I use the Internet for is research. When a question comes up that I dont know the answer to, I google it. I very rarely if ever cant find the answer to a question by using the Internet. The only problem with this is that anyone can write on the Internet which means your source needs to be evaluated before you accept something as a fact.

I used the Internet to help me graduate from college. I took several classes on-line through the Internet. These classes were easier to take on-line and saved me from having to drive to class on certain days.

I, like most people do some form of shopping from the Internet. I have used Ebay.com, Craigslist.com, Amazon.com and other stores to purchase items for cheaper, or more conveniently. Sometimes it is easier to just by something online than to drive around trying to track it down. I also pay my bills on-line. Not only do I save money on stamps and envelopes but I also know that my payment went through.
