The film starts with a young David Rice being at school and giving a girl he likes a snow globe. Another boy comes over and laughs at him and throws the snow globe onto the frozen lake, David goes onto the ice to get it back and he finds he falls through. Whilst under the water he suddenly finds himself in the school library soaking wet and doesn't understand what has happened. His school friends believe he is dead.
David then returns home and his father asks him why he is wet and so David locks himself in his bedroom, his father tries to get into the room and as he is doing so David again transports himself back to the library.
We learn that David's mother had left when he was 5 and he has not seen her since and so he lives with just his father.
David soon finds how to use his power and starts a new life for himself with the help of money he has taken from inside a bank vault. David carries on like this for the next 8 years, living of taken money and being able to go wherever he wants in the world at any time he chooses.
Soon after David started jumping and taking money, a group of zealots, one of whom is played by Samuel L Jackson, starts to try and track him as they believe these jumpers should all be killed. They are unable to find David and at the present he is safe. David also soon meets up with another guy which is also a jumper and he tells David of the dangers of the zealots and how they are finally getting the equipment needed to track all jumpers.
Will David be able to escape the zealots or will his jumping be stopped and what did happen to his mother?
I personally wanted to see this film for the actors.
All the supporting actors played their roles extremely well and their characters were all very believable. Also the graphics and effects used during the film were totally real and I did not at any point think that they looked silly or unbelievable.
The soundtrack was good but no songs particularly stood out to me but all seemed to fit into the film well and none sounded out of place.
I did enjoy the way one minute in the film we were in America and the next we were on top of a pyramid, the effects used to make all of these backdrops were amazing.
The DVD which I have does contain some bonus features which include:-
Audio Commentary by Director Doug Liman, writer / Producer Simon Kinberg and Producer Lucas Foster
Jumping from novel to film: The Past and Future of Jumper
Making An Actor Jump Featurettes
Deleted Scenes
Jumping Around the world Featurettes
Doug Liman's Jumper: Exposed
Animated Graphic Novel
I personally did not watch these but my husband did and he said that he found parts of them interesting, but some of them to him seemed pointless and not worth watching.
The film was produced by Warren Milchan, Lucas Foster, Jay Sanders and Simon Kinberg. It was directed by Doug Liman and released in 2008 by Twentieth Century Fox Limited
The film has a 15 certificate which I feel is quite appropriate as there are some swear words and moderate violence. The running time of the film is 84 minutes which is just the right length for me.
This film does vary in price. I have seen this for £10 in Woolworths and as low as £7 in Tesco so do shop around for a bargain as this is a good film which I do recommend all to watch.
