Which is the better video game platform: Console or PC?
A question that has plagued the human race since the creation of the first video games console dating back to 1968 when a man known as Ralph Baer completed the working prototype of the Magnavox Odyssey.
As you all know, since then the world of gaming has progressed no end but I am not here to bore you with history lessons of how the gaming world came about, I am here to offer my opinion on the topic listed above.
I myself have always been an avid gamer, always having to have the most up to date consoles and games ranging from the Atari right up to the most recent systems such as the XBOX 360 and PS3. Each gaming system has its own unique perks yet all have one major downfall... They break down. Now unlike a PC, when a games console breaks down its not just a quick fix, especially with the newer ones. Having previously worked as a Playstation 3 technician it really opened up my eyes as to how bad consoles have got now. If you don't have a warranty it will cost you a small fortune to have any console fixed or replaced when it breaks down as only the manufacturers are able to match up new parts to the console. With a PC however, if you have any problems its just a quick trip down to a computer shop and you can not only repair the computer, but you can upgrade it too.
Now, moving on to one of my favourite things about PC gaming, the reason I will njo longer buy another console. Emulators. Why shell out hundreds for a games console that, lets face it, will probably be out dated in the next couple of years if it has not already been. Simply get online and dowload the emulator for your favourite console. It may take a little bit of shopping about for the best one but in the long run you will save so much money, meaning you can go out and treat yourself, or if you make time for one between gaming, your girlfriend. Not only can you get emulators, but you will find you can get the controllers from most consoles for the PC now. For example, XBOX 360 controllers are 100% compatible with your home computer or laptop. I personally use my 360 controller with all of my emulators as it is so easy to configure.
Taken all of this into consideration, ask yourselves this. "What would I rather do with my money?" Will you continue to needlessly waste it games consoles that cost a small fortune, or, will you use it to ugrade your computer and turn it into an all in one console? I sure know what I would rather do.
