The worst hairstyles for women

Many women have a bad hair day perhaps once or twice a month.  Your hair just will not sit right, looks messy, peculiar or worst of all, silly. or at least you think it does.  Whether the bad hair day is real or imagined, the only answer is a hat.  Or a wig.  However if you want a real bad hair day every day of the week, perhaps because you need a reason to wear hats, then you should definitely consider one of these awful hairstyles:

A mullet

These never look good on anybody and never have.  The combination of shortish hair all around the front, top and sides together with an utterly pointless rat tail at the back is ridiculous.  Some women sport these to make some kind of political statement, and they shouldn’t.  If you want statement hair then go for very short, very long, dreadlocks, braids, or wild colours, but please leave mullets where they belong.  In the eighties.

A pudding bowl

One length hair is almost always a bad idea, and the shorter the hair the worse the idea is.  Putting a pudding bowl over your head and trimming all around the edges, or rather looking like that is what you did, is highly inadvisable.  The look is harsh, has never been fashionable, and even a top model would struggle to carry it off.  If you want a short hairstyle then go for a flattering layered one.

The long pudding bowl

Some bobs look like a pudding bowl style has grown out and they are little more attractive, although they are strangely popular.  Bobs can look very good but you need to be careful.  A one length bob with a fringe (bangs) rarely works, and almost certainly will not work with thick, straight hair.  This is a brilliant type of hair to have so don’t ruin it with an unflattering bob.

Long and stringy

Long hair is not attractive if it hangs in limp rat tails with every end split.  Even the longest hair needs occasional trims, and if you have thin hair then forget going too long altogether. Just below shoulder length provides a similar look without looking stringy.  Very long hair only really works if it is in fantastic condition and naturally thick.

Straw

Some women achieve this in an attempt to look feminine.  The hair is bleached (at home) then permed, then straightened, then given home highlights.  The result is a lovely straw-like look that gives the impression the hair will break off at a touch.  Unless you want to look like a Worzel it is best not to overprocess your hair.  Also, while home colouring is an economical option, it is best to get a professional to lighten it.

While any of the above choices will certainly provide a very good reason to show off your collection of caps, they are generally not recommended.  They might scare small children and they will definitely make you look far worse than you should.  If in doubt about a new hairstyle, ask somebody who knows what they are doing.  This is a hair stylist, not your granny, not the leader of the local anarchists, and certainly not a scarecrow.
