Shampoos and conditioners are readily available in most shops and stores. Dry, oily, dandruff and damaged are just some of the hair conditions they treat. Having so many choices to treat just one ailment can often be confusing – not to mention expensive. Containing so many chemicals, can mean they are not always suitable or beneficial either. Going 'back to basics' is the easiest option, homemade is less costly and can be fun too.
Homemade shampoo and conditioners are easy and simple to make. Being made mostly from natural ingredients, they are much more gentle on your hair. They can also be stored in the same way as those you buy. So retain any empty shampoo bottles you have, rinse and re-use for your own. Not only will your hair benefit but so to will your pocket.

• Rosemary/Sage Shampoo
Rosemary is known to stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth. It can be used to treat dry scalp conditions such as dandruff. It also strengthens weak hair and can slow the graying process too.

4oz Castile Soap
1/2oz Rosemary
1/2oz Sage (prevents spoiling, also an antioxidant)
1/2oz Nettles (promotes hair growth and blood stimulation)
3-4 drops Lavender Oil
Mix herbs and lavender oil in a jar and seal. Boil 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Add 3 tbsp of herb mix to the water, remove saucepan from the heat. Leave for 30-45 minutes to infuse and cool. Strain the mix into a jug then pour 2oz into your bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with the castile soap. Seal the bottle and shake well.
